Identity And The NRI Woman
After a forced sabbatical in rainy August, thanks to frequent power cuts and internet downtime, we're back with an issue that addresses the Non-Resident Indian Woman. Sensitively addressed in recent movies like The Namesake, the issue of identity for Indians abroad is a complex one that spans generations.
From Indian mothers struggling to preserve their Indianness while minimizing conflict with their children, to second-generation Indian women balancing their traditions and cultural demands with the new choices available to them. We also applaud the women who resist the lure (and potential danger) of NRI grooms, choosing instead to stay and work close to home.
In this issue, we also cover some disturbing facts of Indian society, such as sexual abuse and incest that need to be addressed. We offer tips on dealing with controlling people and bullies at work and home, and explore the changing relationship dynamics of women who earn more than their spouses.
And finally, we feature, as Naaree of the Month, a woman who has made it safe and comfortable for the Indian woman traveler to express her wanderlust. Enjoy the offerings in the September 2007 issue of Naaree.com and do leave your feedback so we can give you more of what you love.
With love,
